My name is Marcy Bartula, and I am the Founder of Different Day Foundation. In 2015, there began to be a rise in human trafficking cases in the Brazos Valley. As I helped connect families to resources, I began to see the severe lack of services for survivors. I began to understand I had a strong passion and conviction to serve survivors of human trafficking; I had to be in the fight against it. I had a dream, serve survivors with a residential facility to heal, learn, and be free from human trafficking. God was telling me something in 2015, I simply did not understand what he was showing me. I continued on, learning more and continuing to serve in different capacities in the anti-trafficking movement, partnering with wonderful agencies in the area. After taking a medical break from boots on the ground. I began to build DDF, now here we are two years later, the residential doors are open. Without my faith in God building DDF would be not have been possible. It is by his Grace I am able to give women a safe space to heal. By his Grace I've been set free throughout this process from my own trauma. I am here to give survivors a new beginning and Different Day. I thank God for showing me my purpose long before I ever knew. He always gave me clues but I did not see them because I did not seek him in the way I needed. Now I understand without seeking him day in and day out I would have never come to this point. Where my dream is now a reality. I walk in his Grace and follow His plan. This also could not be possible without the unwavering support of my husband Jody Bartula, he is my rock, my safe place, he is my sun and stars. Thank you.
I founded Different Day Foundation to help give survivors in my community a sanctuary, gainful employment, life skills, equine therapy, and a space filled with love. Often we can recover and advocate however, the lack of residential stability and gainful employment would simply cycle the women back into the life. There needed to be a place to call home and provide protection in our community. The program is a 4 phased program where residents can stay up to 2 years. I learned that mot survivors simply need you to be there, through the good and the bad. Loving someone through their pain is the most powerful tool for people to heal. Love and connection heals.
We opened a resale shop that allows gainful employment to the women we serve. Within the resale shop we sell candles. Each candle line is handmade from each survivor. It truly is a beautiful journey to see a survivor be stabilized by a loving space of employment in a trauma informed environment. Wild as You Resale now Stage Left reopens its doors in Downtown Bryan in May of 2023. We start our days with a prayer "We light the candle for the women still in the life, we light the candle for the women still trying to find their way home." After the candle is lit we sit and talk Ted Lasso style. We love and actively listen in the circle. The work day then starts. It was important to me to have a safe and positive space for our residents to work and gain their independence.
